The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith
This crime caper is the newest novel of J.K. Rowling's hits. Written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, The Cuckoo's Calling centers around the investigation of the supposed suicide of biracial supermodel Lula Landry. We follow down and out PI Cormoran Strike as he tries to weed his way through the mine field of lies and speculation surrounding the young paparazzi model's death. The Cuckoo's Calling offers a glimpse of the celebrity culture as Strike and his temp secretary Robin Ellacott look for the truth surrounding Lula's death at which a seedy actor-musician boyfriend and paparazzi chased designer best friend are at the center. For those who read J.K.'s other adult novel, The Casual Vacancy, her writing style is unmistakable. The Cuckoo's Calling comes to a climax when Strike pulls a confession from the killer reminiscent of Agatha Christie.

Agent Pendergast Series by Preston & Child
The Agent Pendergast series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child is my newest obsession when it comes to murder mysteries and thrillers.  The books are focused around Special Agent Pendergast of the FBI and the bizarre cases he works.  Pendergast is an eccentric wealthy Sherlock Holmes type from New Orleans with a peculiar family history and a complete disregard for FBI bureaucracy and protocol.  The series has 13 books and I suggest reading them in order.  If you don't read them in order, the authors do give you some brief back story but it is a much better story if read as written.  I have also heard that their Gideon series is good as well.  I plan on reading it once I complete the Pendergast series.  Visit their website for more info.
